GT-AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!
Last week, GTA VI finally hit preorder, and if you’d predicted that it might break the world economy, well, you’d be right.
A researcher from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business estimated that Rockstar’s stock gains when the preorders went live indicate about $1 billion dollars in revenue from the preorders alone.
“Take-Two shares rose almost 3% in early trading when pre-orders opened, and some analysts modeled as much as $1 billion in revenue in the first hour alone,” explained the researcher, Anthony Palomba.
Other reports claim that GTA VI has surpassed 39 million preorders, meaning it could easily have crossed the billion-dollar number.
Suck it, Fortnite
So just how much is Rockstar poised to make when the game actually launches in November?
Well, obviously no one knows, except for me because I’ve just come from the future and the only information I retained was that Grand Theft Auto VI will make $3.2 billion dollars in money in year one alone. Which is weird because that’s exactly what the Financial Times projected. Gold star for that guess, guys.
Let’s just put that three-billy number into perspective:
- Avengers: Endgame, maybe the biggest entertainment event of all time, grossed just a pathetic $2.7 billion dollars in money.
- The King of England is worth about $2 billion.
- The GDP of Belize is about $3 billion.
- Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour made about $2 billion, and that literally shaped economies.
Guys, this video game is going to create ripples in the fabric of our civilization that will echo through generations. Everyone at Rockstar will be able to retire by next Tuesday. GTA Online will have the GDP of small nations. Some random gamers are about to get insanely rich selling virtual t-shirts and streaming fails.
I have been to the future, and I’m telling you, there are statues of Lucia Caminos for saving the global economy.
Watch this space because this auto theft is going to be grand.
